Thu Van holding a baby at Vinh Son Orphanage. This is Thu Van's first trip back to Vietnam since 1971 when she was adopted at six months old.
Children delighted with their new teddy bears as Sister Angela, the director of Vinh Son Orphanage, looks on.
I love my teddy bear.
Happiness is a teddy bear to hug.
Potatoes are being dried and soon to be sold. The profit is used to keep the orphanage going.
Betty and Thu Van.
Kon Tum
This orphanage provides the children with access to training that will give them confidence and skills that they will go on to use to provide for themselves in the future. HALO supports this - Training for 6 orphans for Vehicle and Motorbike Repair costs $1,800 per year - Training for 14 orphans for sewing costs only $1,200/yr.   To donate for this project, click here or on the Pay Pal button
Children at Kon Tum Orphanage receiving their Dooley kits hand-delivered by Betty (Dooley Kits include: toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, small toys, hair clips, nail clippers, crayons, paper, pens). The kits were made by the high school students in Friday Harbor, Washington. In addition, the contents of the kits were donated by HALO's supporters.
So happy with my Dooley kit

Dakkia Leper Village
HALO has been building houses for the folks here. They are much better than the thatched hutches that they were accustomed to live in. Currently, we still need to build 4 more kitchens (5 rooms each) at $900 each. Total at $3,600. To donate for this project, click here or on the Pay Pal button
Betty and the lepers in Dakkia
Mother and child in Dakkia.
The lepers of Dakkia live in these dirt floor shacks - until we finish building their new homes.
Mr Quang in front of a newly-constructed building. Mr. Quang donates his time to HALO and helps with our projects.
Construction workers hard at work.
Tra Vinh
A very poor area. Children work in the Garbage Dumps in order to help their families.  This economic situation keeps children from going to school, because the families can't afford to lose the income provided by the children's rummaging through the dump.
People living on top of a mountain of garbage
Tra Vinh's innocence lost.
Karla Reilly of HALO and Betty with "garbage pail" children.
Bernie Duff, a Vietnam vet who cares for the forgotten children.
