On June 1st, Betty Tisdale will be flying to Kabul, Afghanistan to open a baby orphanage called "House of Flowers" which will be a first for Kabul. For more information, please see link below.

Immaculate Conception Church's catholic youth organization is a
catholic youth group for students in Westchester New York. Open to
students from eighth to twelfth grade, the organization is a group of
determined teenagers who gather to discuss issues of spirituality and
to serve their community. This year, they have decided to dedicate the
funds they raise from their annual charity dinner to an amazing
charity called H.A.L.O. Through bake sales, car washes, journal ads,
admission to the dinner, and donations, the group plans on supporting
this great cause. The CYO knows that HALO will put the money they

The Children of An Lac is a movie about Betty and her work and it is now available on Netflix.

Betty is still in need of miles for her Afghanistan trip which will take place in June.

An update on Betty's trip to Saint Louis.

Betty will leave tomorrow for Saint Louis, Missouri. This will be an emotional trip for Betty as Saint Louis is where Dr. Tom Dooley was born and buried. Betty will speak at the Saint Louis University and also visit Dr. Tom Dooley's resting place.

An update by Charlie Beall, HALO's partner at The Rosemina Orphanage. Currently, HALO is partnering with Mr. Beall on his Critical Path work and will be doing so with the Rosemina Bakery in the future.

Today's honoree is Betty Tisdale.

Betty leaves for Bogota February 9th and will return on February 19th. HALO has been a part of the Luz y Vida Orphanage over ten years.

Betty turns 89 today. Happy Birthday Betty!

Betty will be in Pennsylvania on Saturday, October 15th for a reunion with the orphans from Babylift Operation and An Lac Orphanage.

Betty will leave Seattle on March 30 and return on April 12. Kim Lan and Mai Lara, Betty’s daughters, will accompany her on this trip.

The trip will include a visit to the orphanages in Kon Tum, which are Vinh Son Orphanage and also two government orphanages. HALO, in the past, provided a library, computers, and bathrooms, etc to these orphanages. This year, HALO will provide a kindergarten and playground for the children.

Next will be a visit to the Dakkia Leper Village where HALO has provided houses, wells and many tricycles for those afflicted by leprosy so that they are now able to get around the village.

Afterwards, Betty will return to HCMC and join the doctors who do facial surgery. Betty will also visit Loc Bao where HALO has built many schools and will see the property where a new pre-school will be built.

Betty is back from this year's trip to Vietnam.  Read her email here.

This little pre-school is the second one HALO has built in the Bao Lam area.  The government will not allow the children in the government schools until they have been to pre-school - so we (HALO) are making sure that all the children in that area will be able to go to school.  This one was built with the kindness of Dick and Anne Kazan.. The problem is that the ethnic minorities don't usually go to school until the first grade and they are already behind and it is very hard for them to catch up.  That is why they need the pre-school.  This building was completed March 7, 2009.  It actually cost $30,000. The ages of the students is about 3-5 years old - children will learn reading , writing - and how to stay clean. We have also sent 7 personal computers - for some of the older children. Our wonderful and faithful Treasurer, James Stanford, passed away in Seattle on this date. He was 79 years old. Jim had been Treasurer for HALO since its inception in 2000. We will miss him and send our love and prayers to his wife, Joan.

Mr. Geoffrey Shelton, Certified Public Accountant, has accepted the position of Treasurer.
